BAUMGARTNER, John W., DE POTO, Al, FRACCIO, William, and FULLER, Sammy, The 16th Infantry 1798-1946
BAUMGARTNER, John W., DE POTO, Al, FRACCIO, William, and FULLER, Sammy
The 16th Infantry 1798-1946
N.p. N.p. 1946. Hardcover. 8vo. Blue pebble-grain cloth with gilt lettering, rules and insignia. 276pp. Illustrations, foldout pictorial map. Very good. Faint binding wear only; endpapers a bit age toned and neat blue cloth tape on inner hinges. A tight and quite nice first and likely only edition of this bibliographically-challenged regimental history. This storied regiment, part of the 1st Infantry Division ("The Big Red One"), has been extremely active in every military engagement from the Civil War on up through the War in Afghanistan. Co-author Samuel Fuller (1912-97) was an infantryman in the 16th and went on to fame and fortune as a Hollywood director, novelist and screenwriter. A revised, refocused softbound edition titled "16th Infantry Regiment 1861-1946, Featuring the 8 Campaigns of World War II" was published in 1995, but this hardbound predecessor is rarely seen. Scarce. .
